Reading Log Week 2 Semester 2Day 1Title: A Dog's LifeAuthor: Ann M. Martin Time: 2 hours Pages: 3-157 Quote: We were born in the wheelbarrow, Bone and I. Mother (her dog name was simply was Stream, but to Bone and me she was simply Mother) managed to climb into it early that first morning, having decided that it was an ideal nest for her puppies. Mother gave birth to five puppies, but only Bone and I survived. Two puppies were born dead, and a third lived for less than an hour. He was tiny, too tiny, and his legs were misshapen. Mother tossed him out of the wheelbarrow and ignored him. He whimpered several times, then was silent. Reaction: I feel happy that Bone and Squirrel managed to survive, but it's sad how their siblings were born. Well, two of them weren't even born. So it must be a sad thing to be born with only one sibling left to rely on and a mother when three of the others have died.

Day 2

Quote:
There was Mine. She lay in a heap under a peony plant. She was very still. Mother found Bone and me then and herded us toward the shed, staying well away from the men. As soon as the gardener bent over to look at Mine, Mother ran us around the corner and pushed us through the door, and we retreated to the dark corner again... Early the next morning Mother left the shed and trotted off in the direction of the garbage heap.
She never came back.
Reaction:
I know that the both of them were already grown up and about to live on their own, but it was a sad thing that their mother left on short notice. So now they are left alone with only their mother's teachings.

Day 3

Quote:
Too late. The man scooped Bone into his arms, and the woman scooped me into her arms. "Look, they're just puppies," the woman exclaimed. "What are they doing out here?" The man looked sternly at Bone. "You guys could have gotten yourselves killed," he said. "This is a dangerous highway. Reaction: I'm glad someone found them on their way to a better place to live but I know that they miss everything that they had to leave behind.

Day 4

Quote:
I didn't want a new home. I wanted the shed. I wanted Mother. I wanted the garbage heap. I wanted Yellow Man and the mice and Matthias. I wanted Bone and me curled up on our burlap nest... It didn't matter, because here were George and Marcy carrying us to their house and they were making the choices now.
Reaction:
I knew it!!!!!!! I know they would miss everything! Now their new owners, George and Marcy, have to decided things for them now. Now they are being controlled instead of living their dream of being free.

Day 5

Quote:
I looked at Bone. He was limping toward me, his nose bloody, and he had almost reached me when I heard someone cry, "Did you see that? Some guy threw those puppies out of a car!" "Are they alright?" asked someone else. I glanced around. Bone and I had landed on asphalt, like the Merrions' lane, only this piece of asphalt was much, much bigger.
Reaction:
I know how the new owners may have felt with new dogs in the house. I had that feeling too with my dog. They were still young and expected anything except for being captive in a house. Be even though you're mad, there's no reason why to throw the dogs out of the car. Then they suffer more. No one would want that, right?
